Natural capital is increasingly recognised as an important concept, highlighting the role of nature in our society and businesses. At the moment there are several natural capital initiatives in the UK, promoting dialogue and knowledge exchange. The James Hutton Institute has reviewed UK natural capital initiatives to better understand their roles.

Moving from raising awareness to making it mainstream

According to the review, there are many important natural capital activities in the UK but the natural capital landscape is becoming crowded. We need to promote coordination and collaboration between the initiatives to reach our common goal: natural capital conservation. It is important to move from raising awareness to using the natural capital approach and making it mainstream across economics and society. We need funding for specific projects from the private sector, too.
